The Putts Out Application Deadline is Approachin’

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Remember Foggy Mountain Breakdown from last year? Insane!

Hey you creative, resourceful whipper snappers. We know you want to build a mini-golf hole for South Park Putts Out. And we want to play it! It’s time to get in the application–the official due date is June 30th, just a week away.

This is a ridiculously fun way to dream up and build your own design and then watch it in action. We’ll get you $100 to cover your expenses (and more if you need it). Collaborations are most welcome.

Fear not the application. It’s no big whoop. Full instructions within: SP Putts Out Application 2011

Putts Out Featured in Arts & Cultural Affairs 2010 Report

Violet commanding The Urban Jungle

There it is. On page 10 of the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs Annual Report. If you really want to geek out, you can download the whole report and read it here. Or you can just skip to the cool part –the South Park Putts Out part. The hole pictured is Elizabeth and Bird’s winning ’Urban Jungle’, the hole that received the most votes from the neighborhood, and man, was it close.

We’re looking forward to this year’s creations and hoping it’s just as hard to pick your favorite. Start firing up those ideas and collaborations!

P.S.
Hi Violet!

Like ‘Iron Chef’ but outdoors, in the rain, with paints…

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

Nori describes our Open the Door to Art event perfectly. You see, we also opened the door to rain. And the artists just flat out dealt with it. In fact, they soared. They dabbed up the running paint, went back at it and created five absolutely amazing pieces. Watching artists of this calibre work live is better than any painting class. If you ever get to experience a spectacle like this, you’ll know what I mean. Check out Nori’s blog Eat.Paint.Live for a great write up and pics of all the doors, including blow-by-blow snapshots of 179′s door in the making. Thanks to all who got a little soggy and cheered the artists on. And as John Ohannesian suggested, “Next time, 20 artists.”

Like hotcakes, people!

Check ‘em out. This is seriously the last time we print Christopher Gay’s amazing bridge design. I know we’ve said that before. But seriously. We really mean it this time. This version is on a super seksy mossy green tee with 2013 – ? for the bridge date. See?

Sizes M to 2XL. There aren’t many. Contact your local SPArts representative or email jen@southparkarts.org.

The Doors Before…

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

Ooooo the possibilities. What on earth are those artists going to do to these poor, unsuspecting doors? Tomorrow, you’ll find out.

Naked, naked doors

A live painting event at Napoli’s (Corner of 14th Ave S and S Cloverdale)

So speaking of ‘Open the Door’… Anyone singing the old Paul McCartney song now?
