2015 Putts Out Hole Application

Sunday, May 24th, 2015

South Park’s unique celebration of the Night Out Against Crime is fast approaching, and we need your help to make it special. Each year, close off the 800 block of S Thistle St and we invite our neighbors to play a round of mini-golf at “Thistle Downs” in the parking strips. We’re looking for a few good holes!

Putts Out 2015 is on Tuesday August 4th from 6 – 8:30 pm. Holes will be installed for the evening and removed at the end of the event without lasting damage to the ground beneath. Each hole-building group can apply to be compensated for $100.00 (requires completed W-9 form, found here .) Link to application is here 2015 Putts Out Application. We need them turned in by July 1st.

The even itself is amazingly fun, and open to all. There will be free food and live music, and awards for best hole and best golfer outfit. Bring your self, your creativity, your family, your friends and make this the best Putts Out ever.

May 2015 SP Arts meeting

Friday, May 15th, 2015
Held on 05/03/2015. In attendance:  Bill, Wendy, Barbara, Bonnie, Colleen, Raina, Antonia, Lisa
Topics Covered:
Bandshell (similar to this)-  Dan on the river will take it temporarily (it has to be moved from storage at Dale’s by June 1), but the goal is to install at permanent spot, possibly at Marra Farms.  In temporary spot at Dan’s place it will be visible by river and get some notice and maybe press about our scrappy arts group…  Marra Farm may have some funding.  Parks Dept. say they want community input  but haven’t taken steps to aquire it, and historically haven’t always listened.  Bill will email Raina, Dan, Dale and Meredith regarding: next steps and getting moving equipment.   Dan has a bobcat, we still need a flatbed truck. Possibly SPARKS and Dan can fund rental.
Duwamish Revealed-  Bill is processing over 50 contracts for artists and other people involved in this summer-long festival full of art on the Duwamish… big event with half million in funding grants.  From Jack Block Park  to tour of the City of Tukwila, along and parallel to river.  Known projects: East Asian Festival -with lanterns on the river (need ideas for biodegradable/ecologically friendly material for lanterns), Latino Festival, flower arch, lucha libre, looking for trajineras. Goal is to help different groups organize and complete projects.
Artist Catherine Grisez is creating Cultivate to be installed in June for the Duwamish Revealed. It’s a recycled art project with help of the community. It will be made of  large panels hanging off the South Park bridge, and will require lots of aluminum cans and plastic 1 liter and 2 liter bottles…. Art/work parties are tentatively scheduled every week in May: Wednesday evening at Loretta’s Northwestern, and Saturday afternoon at Lowercase Brewery (no age limit.) Check the Facebook page for updates. Bring gloves (to protect hands from sharp edges), scissors, stapler and utility knife. Spare tools are provided.
International Market Night at Concord Elementary-  May 28th, Colleen will help and maybe Antonia to do kid project dealing with gardens, beneficial bugs, growing food, our environment…
2015 Putts Out (link to last year) – Tuesday August 4, 2015   Call for holes to go out soon. Raina wants to do Seattle Tilth booth and hole, Bill wants to try to get softball team to do a hole, Antonia suggested youth summer camps to do one.  Someone suggested  Colleen do a Roller Derby Hole. Wendy suggested to partner again with Community Center to do food again.  Raina will put call out for beer again, we got a good deal on keg from Georgetown last year.  Barbara suggested having tables on either end of Thistle Street.  (Carmen has Duwamish Valley Youth Corps of kids that can help do tasks, maybe clean-up?)

Bonnie suggested putting out message board with our calendar of events for the year on it…
